The professional social networking site has registered a user base of over 15 million in India. India is LinkedIn Corp.’s largest market outside the US in terms of membership, currently accounting for 9.3% of the site’s overall user base of 161 million.
LinkedIn started its India operations in 2009 with a member base of 3.4 million and today India is LinkedIn’s largest market outside the US in terms of membership.

LinkedIn India’s audience of professionals is one of the most influential, educated and affluent on the Web with one out five members being drivers of business decisions. In India, members turn to LinkedIn to keep up with industry discussions (58%), fostering their professional identity (75%), networking with other professionals (77%) and learning about companies (46%).
Recent acquisition of Slideshare, leading professional content-sharing community has helped LinkedIn advance in the social media jargon. After hitting $14 million Indian users mark recently, the company has also dived in the app market by creating a remarkable iPad app.
The Indian user base of the largest professional social networking site has grown 300% in three years since it had a marketing presence in India.
LinkedIn has been able to reach with English - unlike other markets such as China, where local language is the key to build a successful Internet business. That may explain why India is a larger market for LinkedIn than China, where it has barely a million members.
