Apple's announcement of integrating Facebook into its operating system should be a welcome news for a social network that's taken a lot of hits in recent weeks, putting Facebook at the fingertips of Apple users.
Moving a step further, Facebook announced the launch of WordPress Plugin for WordPress.org and WordPress.com VIP users. This will allow users to add their blog content to the social network in one simple click. The integrations allows bloggers and administrators of WordPress-based sites to cross-publish content to their own Facebook Timelines and the Facebook Pages.
This is a clear forward thinking smart move especially with WordPress powering 16.6% of the top 1 million websites.
Facebook Engineer Matt Kelly wrote in a blog post today. “Once the plugin is installed, you can cross-post content published to WordPress to your Facebook Timeline and the Facebook Pages you manage. You can also mention the names of Pages and friends as you post to further distribute your content."
In addition, Facebook announced plugins that are now available as WordPress widgets — small, moveable components that WordPress bloggers can position wherever they want.
The widgets include an activity feed, which shows your visitors what their friends are doing on your site, recommendations for the best pages and posts on your blog, a comments box, and customizable like, subscribe, and send buttons.
This will help blogs integrate with Facebook seamlessly now that adding social functionality is as easy as checking a box rather than writing code. Facebook hopes bonus referral traffic will lure in authors, allow it to feed more content into the news feed, and stamp its name everywhere.
