Yahoo India withdraws its local search service which was launched in 2008. The news was reported by Pluggd.in The local search served six main cities viz, Chennai, Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Bangalore.
When we log on to the local search page of Yahoo.com it redirects us to the home page.
Yahoo local search integrated Yahoo India maps of each of these cities. Typically when users search for places like restaurants, pubs, health clubs, and shopping malls, they were led to the business detail page where they get details along with driving directions on how to get there. Users could also contribute to the site through restaurant reviews and ratings, adding or editing business listings and marking a location on the map. The local information was also available on Yahoo's mobile products, Yahoo oneSearch and Yahoo Go.
Local businesses across categories were listed for free on Yahoo! India Local. So, whenever users searched for those categories, the businesses were shown on the search.
Another feature of local search was 'EssentiaList' which was meant for packaging data in the most usable format.
To make its hold further in the local search engine market, Yahoo had also invested in a Call Ezee which is a telephone directory search service. The service currently serves 17 cities where consumers can call for any aspect of the city from movies to transport.
Yahoo had also closed Yahoo India Local blog two years ago.
