Beetel Teletech announced the launch of their Tablet PC, Magiq. The 3G Tablet runs on Android 2.2, has a 7 inch TFT capacitive touch screen powered by a 1 GHz Snapdragon processor, front and rear 2 Megapixel cameras, WiFi enabled, an internal 8GB memory (expandable to 32GB), and a mobile radio.
According the press release, the Tablet priced at INR 9,999 is the cheapest amongst a whole host of other Tablets in the Indian market. The company expects rural areas to adopt the tablet computers more readily to access internet, like they did by adopting mobile phones instead of buying fixed line telephone services.
Phone services companies like Bharti Airtel Ltd. (India's largest mobile-phone operator by number of users), Reliance Communications, and Idea Cellular Ltd. expect increased data usage to help boost revenue and margins in a market where stiff competition has kept call tariffs at less than one U.S. cent a minute.
